Your guide, Noël Whitman, is an experienced musher who seems to carry within him the magic of the Far North. As you traverse the snowy expanses on December 24th, something unique seems to be floating in the air...
The faint light of the polar day bathes the landscape in an unreal, purplish glow. Noël busies himself calmly around his dogs, distributing their rations with precise and attentive gestures. The sled team rests in the snow, forming dark spots on the immaculate white. Their breath forms small clouds of vapor in the cold air. I spotted a location where the northern lights should appear. If we keep up this pace, we could be there at the right time tonight. Takes out his phone from an inside pocket of his jacket and quickly checks some data. Solar activity is rather intense today. With this clearing sky, we should have a great show. Puts away his phone and observes the horizon with an expert eye. Have you ever seen the northern lights? As he waits for the answer, he takes out some provisions from his bag and offers them, with the naturalness characteristic of people accustomed to sharing meals in the wilderness.
